General – Installation & Maintenance
How much does installation cost?
In many cases, delivery and installation (locating the range cooker in your chosen room or garage etc ready for future installation) are included within the purchase price, subject to site readiness. We are happy to advise on what preparation your property will need before installation and connection – this varies by fuel type and property.
Any preparatory work – such as chimney lining, electrical alterations or oil line installation – is carried out separately by a registered installer and is not usually included in the cooker price.
Do I need a professional installer?
Yes. All Thornhill Range Cookers should be installed by an appropriately registered professional.
• Log wood and wood pellet models: HETAS registered installer.
• Oil-fired models: OFTEC registered installer.
• Electric models: Part P qualified electrician for the supply connection.
Professional installation is required for the manufacturer’s warranty to apply. We can help recommend a suitable installer in your area.
How much space do I need to leave around the cooker?
Specific clearances vary by model and fuel type. As a general guide:
• Wooden cupboards: a minimum gap of 40mm on each side is recommended, with an infill panel to maintain a fitted appearance.
• Wood-fired models: a 100mm gap is required on the firebox side (reducible to 80mm with 40mm insulation), and a 50mm gap must be maintained at the rear from any flammable material.
• Worktops: granite can be brought close to the hotplate with a small expansion gap; wooden worktops should allow 5–10mm.
We provide full installation guidance for each model. Please contact us if you have specific kitchen layout questions.
Are Thornhill range cookers standard worktop height?
Yes. Thornhill range cookers are designed to align with standard kitchen worktop heights, making integration into both traditional and contemporary kitchens straightforward.
How much maintenance does a Thornhill require?
Maintenance requirements are modest. Routine care includes:
• Regular cleaning of the vitreous enamel surfaces – a wipe with a damp cloth is usually sufficient. The enamel is highly durable and stain-resistant.
• Annual chimney sweeping for combustion-fuel models.
• Annual service of oil and pellet burners, and periodic inspection of wood-fired components.
The cast-iron body requires no special treatment and does not corrode under normal domestic use. Many customers report that after years of use their Thornhill looks as good as the day it was delivered.
What warranty is included with a Thornhill Range Cooker?
All new Thornhill range cookers are supplied with a comprehensive 5-year guarantee on all parts except service components. To cover the service components we offer a 1 year guarantee on all parts and labour.
The warranty is conditional on professional installation by a registered engineer – which is one of the reasons we take installation seriously and are happy to help you find a suitable installer.
Full warranty terms are available on our Guarantees page.
